The town of Plymouth could hire back five firefighters using over $600,000 in federal funds, U.S. Rep. William Delahunt’s office announced Wednesday.
Town officials, working with the fire department, applied for the funding. Plymouth will get $627,190, money that will be used to re-hire firefighters who lost their jobs last July amid budget cuts.
“The loss of these positions in this year’s budget made it difficult for the department to staff all seven fire stations on a shift by shift basis,” Plymouth Fire Chief Edward Bradley said in a statement released by Delahunt’s office. ”This grant will ensure the department has the staffing required to provide adequate fire protection, hazardous materials and emergency medical response to the residents and visitors to Plymouth, and with no cost to the taxpayers.”
